The Best Places for Photo Sessions | Alison Therese Photography

Besides wardrobe, which I will be writing a blog about soon, the question I get the most is “where will my session take place?” I thought I would write a little about the options that I love for a Family Photo Session.

The Fallen Tree

Here a giant old tree fell in a meadow. There are three gorgeous areas to choose from. One area has tall grass completely surrounded by trees, another is the great spot with the amazing fallen tree, and for the adventurous there is a little ravine that makes for a great scenic picture. I find this meadow great for kids of all ages. Even the big kids (moms and dads) can’t help but climb up and play on the tree. This location is spectacular all times of the year but especially spectacular in the fall when the leaves are changing.

Check out a session at the fallen tree with these adorable two boys to see all the beauty it has to hold.

The Prairie

This location has been my absolute favorite since I started Alison Therese Photography. It has the best, most beautiful sunsets. Also, if the day has been stormy or the weather is about to change, this place is a stunner because the clouds add so much interest to the pictures. I have even been asked if I photo shop them in… I don’t, thank you very much Mother Nature!

Another great part about this location is the flowers. Because it is a prairie, each season has a special surprise. In spring it’s green, lush and filled with tall grass to be waded through. The summer showcases flowers, and in the fall you get the most amazing golden light. It really should not be missed.

Check out a session in the prairie when we tripped on the yellow flowers that were everywhere.

The Lakeside

No, I’m not talking about that lake. This lake in the suburbs is spectacular with its great sky views that reflect stunningly in the water. The location gives a lot of room for the kids to play and get their sillies out while we are shooting, and can also capture the warmth of your family snuggling by the lake.

Check out my first session at the lakeside when I fell in love with how versatile this site is.

The Urban

For all my urban lovers I have two favorite locations. One gives an old town feel and the other has a precious train station and small town vibe. These locations are especially great for Senior Sessions as they offer a lot of variety.

Check out a maternity session at the train station where little man enjoyed trying to get the water out of the pond more than anything.

The Creek Walk

I have been searching for years for a creek that we could wade in that didn’t have dead fish parts (ask me sometime). I finally found it last summer as my kiddos and I scoured the area looking for the perfect spot. It has a storybook bridge, amazing wooded areas and the most charming creek with crawfish (live)! So far in fall and winter it never disappoints. I am eager to shoot here in the summer with an adventurous family who’ll walk the creek with me. Are you that family?

Check out a session I did at the creek walk in the fall. The kids were all about wading in the water but Mom and Dad didn’t bring a change of clothes. You may need that!

Clearly I have a passion for gorgeous photogenic backdrops whether in nature or the city and I am always on the lookoutfor new favorites. The Lakeside was a suggestion from a client and I now use it as a regular spot. So if you ever come across something spectacular that speaks to your heart please let me know. If you already know of a spot please comment below and be sure to tell me why it is so special to you.
